The Classics

When LSB asked me to blog today, I knew right away what I wanted to talk about. The question of why I write for Liquid Silver comes up from other authors quite frequently and my answer is pretty simple ---- I read their books and loved them and wanted to write for them too!

Some of you might be new to Liquid Silver and may have missed the earliest work there. I think of them as Classics - Liquid Silver Classics!!

The very first book I read, I picked out at random from the handful LSB offered at the time. I was blown away! Vanessa Hart's Love Lessons, about a woman who helps her best friend Scott overcome his ex-wife's rejection, was hotter than anything I'd ever read before in my life. I read it in one sitting on my laptop and went back to Liquid Silver and bought four more.

At the time, back in 2003, I'd written a book that wasn't all THAT spicy but started with a sex scene (it was later published as TRUE SEEING right here at LSB). Reading Vanessa's work really opened my mind to new possibilities. What if, instead of forcing my very hot hero out of my heroine's bed, I let them do what they very much wanted?? Could I keep the conflict high enough if I let then have lots of sex? I tired it out and it worked!

The next book I read that night was Jasmine Haynes' MORE THAN A NIGHT, about a woman who wants a one night stand but ends up with much much more. It was hard to put down, even at two in the morning.

Then I read Dee S. Knight's IMPATIENT PASSION. It was Liquid Silver's top seller for a long time - and there is a reason - it's fantastic!

Chris Tanglen's WEEKEND GAMES left me reeling - Here is this story about a psycho killer, yet it's an erotic romp as well (obviously not with the psycho killer - lol). This book was such an inspiration to me, I ended up writing my own erotic thriller called NIGHT HEAT coming out next month in Secrets Vol 14!

The last book I bought that night was Rae Morgan's DESTINY'S MAGICK, which starts her Coven of the Wolf Series. It made my paranormal heart pitter patter in more ways than one.

These were my first books I'd ever read that were erotic romance - and they changed my life. I can only hope that my own books live up to these classics!

What are YOUR favorites from the Liquid Silver's past? What makes a book a classic for you? Anyone who joins in the discussion will have a chance to win a free trade paperback copy of Secrets Vol 12, my last release!

Racing Hearts is on my To Be Read pile! Rae is such a fantastic lady!!

And thanks Shara for the kind words!!!!

In Heat by Leigh Wyndfield was one of the first LSB books I ever read. I just loved it and her later ones. This reminds me that a re-read just might be in order!

I read Rae Morgan's Destiny's Magick, Moon Magick, and Treading the Labyrinth. Fantastic books! After I read Destiny's Magick, I just had to read the rest of the series. I think a classic book is one you would read more than once and is a book you don't want to end because it is just sooo good! Also read J.J. Massa's Acting Like Family. I really love the Montgomery Family Werewolves! Now I'm hooked and I just have to read the rest of the series!

Wow! So glad IN HEAT is getting great mentions.

I'll have to check out JJ's Family series pronto!

As for what makes a classic, I think you're right Annalisa! That reminds me of Emma Holly's Ménage - anyone else read that? It wasn't that I was necessarily all that married to the characters, it's just that the way she built her men - they were so very sexy and yet she didn't short change either of them, which I think happens sometimes in a threesome situation. I got to the end of that book and promptly reread it. I had to see how she did it, had to see how I could end up liking both men for very different reasons.

I can't believe Sydney died back in 2003 - it's been two years! Wow. She was also one of LSB's first cover artist and her last cover was IN HEAT. I dedicated that book to her.

My friend once said, "I think IN ICE might be a classic for me - I keep finding myself thinking about it at odd moments." It was a really nice thing for her to say, but further might be a good thing to add to the definition of classic. Thinking about a book after it's done, going back to read it again, not wanting it to end - all fantastic reasons to put something on your keeper shelf!!

Some of my favorite LSB books are Fallen:Celeste by Tiffany Aaron, Operation Love by Alyssa Brooks, Melissa Schroeder, and Karen Monroe, The Bounty by Beth Williamson.

Wow Amy! I know these ladies will be thrilled to hear this!!

Karen Monroe, Tiffany and I (as well as many more) got to meet at this past year's RT convention. Tiffany is a doll and Karen made me laugh so hard, I had tears running down my face. I'm laughing just thinking about her!

I've only been reading ebooks about a year and a half. So, I went through the list of books that I've read and realized that a lot of them were by Liquid Silver. I'm happy to say that I've enjoyed all of books I've read so far. I do have several on my "to read" list as well as my "to buy" list.

I've enjoyed many hours laughing, crying and getting turn on by all of those hero's. The best and worst part of a book is the end because you get that "wow, that was a good book feeling" as well as the "no, I'm not ready for it to end yet"! :)

Leigh, you made me a classic! Thank you!!

And for anyone who hasn't read Leigh's In Ice and In Heat, these are books that I pull out once or twice a year and re-read. I love them. I love all her books. And am thrilled she liked one of mine well enough to join us at LSB.

Hugs--

Leigh, like you, Vanessa Hart's LOVE LESSONS was the first erotic romance I ever read, and I also loved it. I think MORE THAN A NIGHT was my second and I was really set back on my heels. And (guess what!) TRUE SEEING I think was either the fourth or fifth--and you know I loved it!!

Thanks for mentioning IMPATIENT PASSION!

You're so right about Karen Monroe being a hoot, and her contribution to OPERATION: LOVE makes the book worth reading in itself, in my opinion. Just like your contributions to two of this year's SECRETS books.

I think classics are the ones that leave you with an afterglow and you will never tire of reading them over and over again.

The Flyers by Jennifer Cloud, The Nature of Nature by Dee S Knight, Once Again by Trista Ann Michaels, Acting Like Family by JJ Massa, The Devil Inside by Sasha White.

Leigh, I've read several Emma Holly's, including the Menage, and I love them. She really explored the relationships on various levels.

I'd have to add my kudos to all those who've mentioned Leigh Wyndfield's "True Seeing" and "In Heat". ("In Ice" is on the list, too, but not old enough to be "classic").

My absolute favorites not yet listed are the "to the Max" books by JB Skully. Her heroine is strong, sexy and totally messed up! And her hero is a total keeper.

But I'm afraid I have to add a negative note - Tanglen's "Weekend Games" totally creeped me out because it DID include erotic interaction with the psycho killer and the protagonists. I love his other stuff, but that book was a quick delete, I'm afraid.

You are not kidding when you mention that after you read erotic romance that it is hard to keep interested in the average romance books but I find there are so many great authors and some of them from LSB are Melissa Schroeder, Alyssa Brooks and some new authors as well. I love the western themed cowboy books from Beth Williamson and Cece Stuart who has a new release today! Woohoo! (You have to check out their websites - very exciting!!)

One of my very favorite books from LS was Barbara Karmazin's THE HUNTRESS. It's about a reptilian exo-biologist with two penises. The book was HOT! I also enjoyed Rae Morgan's DESTINY'S MAGICK. Thumb's up!

I believe if a book is well written and leaves an impression on you that makes it a classic.

Have ya'll ordered THE HUNTRESS yet? LOL! It's really good and I'm looking forward to the sequel.

First, Leigh, many thanks for your kind words about my debut romantica, LOVE LESSONS. I'm so flattered that you liked it since I am an admirer of your writing, too.

I've loved all the LSB author's books that I've read. But the one that blew me away and really made an impact on me was the QuickSilver SHUT UP AND DRIVE by Dakota Cassidy. I like to be surprised, and she pulled a plot twist that had me thinking about her story for months later!
