Tell me about the towns in your state with strange names
Hi again, everyone...
I'll start the game and you join in.
Zillah - yes there is actually a city in Washington statewith this name...
"During the 1890's the Sunnyside Canal project was begun. With construction out of the way, the promoter and sole superintendent of the canal, Granger, selected a townsite in 1891. The question of naming the town arose. During the visit, the decision was made to name the town Zillah, in honor of Miss Zillah Oakes, daughter of the railroadcompany president.. Development of the townsite occurred quickly. Shortly after, a hotel was built. Soon a general store, drug store and a blacksmith shop were added. During 1894 School District #32 was organized and a schoolhouse was built."
And, I thought living in a town with the name Zillah would be strange, imagine poor Miss Zillah Oakes, where do people come up with names?

Ok, now it's your turn...what is the strangely named town where you live?
Everyone who posts a response gets their name tossed in a drawing for a free ebook!!

There is a town in Kentucky called Booneville. It was established in 1846.
And then there's that lovely town in France called Condom, which is always lacking for signs, because immature Americans steal them :) And no, I've never been to that particular town, and if I went, I would not steal the sign. Seriously. I wouldn't.

I used to live in a town called Nocona =) Texas also has Buda *ggg* and Mexia (me-hay-uh), Gruene (Green-it's German) and God knows what else LOL
Maine has a bunch of weird names. Madawamkeg, Strong.
Also Maine is known for that sign that points in the different directions to Norway, China, Mexico, Paris, Sweden, there are more, but I can't think of them.

Those are some pretty interesting names ladies.
As for poor Ms. Zillah, I've thought of the perfect pick-up line.
Image Mr. 1891 Stud, his boots polished and his hair slicked back walking up to our lovely maiden and spouting the following:
"So, Miss Zillah, will ya let me feel ya?
Bad, I know.
Oh, and for those of you who didn't realize, the little ole state just a few hours south of here, Oregon, has a town called Drain. Since it's raining today, hopefully someone pulled the plug or they might flood ~grinz~.

Indiana has Oolitic, Gnaw Bone, Versailles (ver- sales), Bean Blossom, well, I could go on forever. Weird names.

The only one I can think of is Moose Factory, Ontario....and I thought they had baby moose the natural way
Gosh, there are so many to choose from.
West Virginia also has a Hurricane and Little Switzerland. I'm surprised by how many states have a Clinton--someone in the Clinton clan got around, but that's for another blog.
There's a Wyoming, PA and a Mexico, MO. And Lost, WY.
One of my favorites is Normal, IL. I can just see a young man and woman sitting on her papa's porch.
"Would you like to marry me, move to Bloomington and make babies?"
"No, I think I'll just stay a Normal girl."

LOL, these are great ladies and I'm delighted to know Washington isn't the only state with some strange ideas for city names.
I bet if a stand up comic took a little time they could make a living out of thinking up jokes for these crazy places.
I'm in Mississippi...so we got a lot of em. LOL
- Arkabutla, MS
- Picayune, MS
I just like saying those names out loud. LOL

As Singapore is very small, there aren't that many town names but we have a lot of place and street names. Some of the more funny ones:
Oldham Lane
Makepeaece Road
Pasir Ris
Hornchurch Road
Hay Market (No hay for sale!)
Minnesota has Climax and Fertile.
Not sure what Iowa has yet, I haven't lived here too long.
Hey, I know I'm late, but my Kinja is funky.
Don't forget Monkey's Eyebrow, Kentucky!
Better Late Than Never Nessie
Here are two more, from North Carolina: High Point and Climax. Then there's Intercourse, PA.

I live in Eufaula, which I've learned also is the name of a town in Oklahoma. But one of the funniest to me is Haleburg...pronounced Hell burg.
